How do I practice Shamanic healing?
In my Shamanic healing work, I mostly use the mesa to determine what type of healing is needed for the client.
I have been initiated as a mesa carrier in the Quero Shamanic tradition of Peru by my teachers Gareth Hughes and Miguel Da Silva.
The mesa is a ‘mandala’ for the four directions and it will show you of where you need the most healing.
Alternatively, a session can begin with a form of divination in order to see into the spiritual root of the issue, and only then a form (or combination) of energy healing.
What is a Shaman?
“A Shaman is a man or woman who enters an altered state of consciousness – at will – to contact and utilize an ordinarily hidden reality in order to acquire knowledge, power and to help other persons. The Shaman has at least one, and usually more “spirits” in his [or her] personal service”. ~ Michael Harner
“Regardless of culture or location, or social environment a Shaman is by purpose, a healer of mind, body and circumstances. It is this bent towards social and environmental benefit, in fact, which distinguishes the Shaman from the sorcerer of Castaneda’s model who follows a path of strictly personal power and enlightenment”. ~ Serge Kahili King
How is a Shamanic healing session carried out?
A typical Shamanic healing session can consist of hands-on-healing, divination, crystal therapy, sound healing, journeying (to the lower, middle or upper worlds), energy extractions, breaking black magic, channelling and many more.
There is a myriad of tools from Nature that are used – stones, rattles, the chakapa, feathers and even plant essences. The aim is to bring about a deep healing of mind, spirit and body as well as restoration of personal power.
